CHARLTON: William J. Meservey, 90, of Knollwood Dr. died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 after a period of declining health. He was born on March 30, 1922 in Camden, Maine, moved to Massachusetts at an early age and lived in Worcester, Webster, West Boylston, East Brookfield, Brookfield and Spencer before settling in Charlton.
He leaves his wife of 65 years Barbara (Grimwade) Meservey, a son W. Roger Meservey both of Charlton, an aunt Frances Meservey of Appleton, Maine, nephews, nieces and many cousins. He was predeceased by an infant son Ronald, his parents William B. and Margaret (O’Connor) Meservey and his sister Marjorie (Meservey) Smith.
William was a graduate of Charlton High School and Becker College. He excelled in both baseball and basketball. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. He worked for Wood Lumber in Worcester and later for many years as a Superintendent and Vice President of Charlton Woolen Company.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Church and served on the Vestry at one time. He was active in community affairs, serving for many years on the Boards of Harrington Hospital, the YMCA, as a member of IMC (CMC) and working on various fund-raising projects.
William enjoyed golf, bridge, socializing with friends, traveling and especially spending time with his family.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM, on Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Union Cemetery at the corner of RT 20 and RT 169 in Charlton City.
