CHARLTON: Theresa “Cookie” (Duhamel) Roy, 88, of Masonic Home Road (formerly of Southbridge) passed away on Saturday, February 4th in the Overlook Masonic Home after an illness.
She was predeceased by her husband Jean Francois Roy in 1964.
Cookie is survived by her son: David and his wife, Marjorie of Ashford, CT; two daughters: Ann Braucher and her husband William of Billerica, MA and Cynthia Dziekan and her husband Michael of Lyons, CO; five grandchildren: Matthew Braucher, Daniel Braucher, Jeffrey Braucher, Amanda Feierman, and Karen Rubin, and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Cookie’s brother, Norman Duhamel, also predeceased her.
Cookie was born on March 25, 1928 to the late, George and Yvonne (Desmarchais) Duhamel in Southbridge, MA. She graduated from Notre Dame High School, married, and after several years at college with her husband, they moved to Coventry, CT, where she resided from 1950 until moving to the Overlook Masonic Home in 2007. Cookie worked for the University of Connecticut as the executive assistant to the director of the William Benton Museum of Art.
Cookie enjoyed making her friends and family smile, golf, walking, bridge, and adventures during her numerous worldwide travels. Most recently she spent her time knitting many baby blankets for newborns at Harrington Hospital.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. in Overlook Life Care Community Chapel, Nicoll Chapel, 88 Masonic Home Road, Charlton, MA. Burial will be private.
