WOODSTOCK, CT - Theodore M. Harakaly, Sr., 66, of Underwood Rd., died Saturday, January 23, at UMass Medical Center. He leaves his wife of 10 years, Maggie (Misch) Harakaly; two sons, Mitchell Harakaly, of Mansfield, CT and Theodore Harakaly, Jr., of Lebanon, CT; two daughters, Carolyn Bryan, of Eastford, CT and Katherine Harakaly, of Woodstock, CT; two brothers, George Harakaly, of Ashford, CT and Charlie Harakaly, of Eastford, CT; two sisters, Sherry Lohnes, of Florida and Nancy Varga, of Pennsylvania; two step children, David Ayau, of Putnam, CT, and Joel Ayau, of Woodstock, CT; 9 grandchildren, Justin, Mitch, and Daniel Bryan, Eric Ouellet, Elizabeth Gordon, Cali, Jacob, and Juliana Harakaly, and Joshua Harakaly; nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by one brother, Stephen Harakaly, and one sister, Phyllis Lynch.
He was born in Ashford, CT, the son of the late Stephen and Florence (Currier) Harakaly, and lived in the area his entire life. He worked as a carpenter with the local union #24 for 35 years. He enjoyed fishing, rock hounding, and hunting. He loved his family and friends dearly, and especially enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
He was a very special man who could do anything he put his mind to. Two of his greatest accomplishments were building a 44 acre lake in Ashford, CT, along with his home for his family. That lake, home, and an additional 300+ acres are now known as the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. He was also a person who always took time to teach people how to fix or build almost anything, but the greatest thing he ever taught all of us, was that no matter what, never sacrifice your morals, values or standards for anyone or anything.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, January 30, in the Woodstock Congregational Church, Rt. 169, Woodstock, CT. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Rt. 44, Ashford, CT 06278 or to UMass Memorial Healthcare, ICU or Cardiology Units, Biotech 1, 365 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605. The Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge, MA, is directing arrangements. An online guestbook is available at www.BelangerFuneralHome.com.
