STURBRIDGE: Samuel R. Puckett, 80, of Rt. 15, died Friday, May 9, at Harrington Hospital .
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Edith (Tipper) Puckett, 2 sons Jeffray Puckett of West Brookfield and his fiancée Krystin Fisher, Jason Puckett and his wife Traci of Brookfield, 2 daughters Ginger Rousseau and her husband Ray of Brimfield, Jennifer Hager and her husband Michael of Sturbridge; a brother Jim Puckett of FL, 3 sisters Ruth Pounders and Betty Hogan of Michigan and Carol Simku of Arizona, 12 grandchildren Joshua Cortis, Amanda Cortis, James Hager, Thomas Hager Tia (Puckett) and Justin Renaud, Nathan Puckett, Maria Puckett, Thomas Puckett, Austin Puckett Ethan Rousseau, Sam Rousseau Autumn Puckett and 2 great grandchildren Jackson Renaud and Jared Renaud.
Sam was born in Shiloh, TN, the son of the late William Benjamin and Mattie Mae (Baggett) Puckett, later moving with his family to Michigan until he moved to his wife's family home in Sturbridge in 1966.
He served in the Army.
He dedicated over 24 years to the Town of Sturbridge as a Highway Department worker and Superintendent as well as Planning Board and Board of Selectmen member . After retirement he worked for Arland Tool and Mfg. Co.
He enjoyed gardening, and was an avid Red Sox fan. He played and managed in the Southbridge Softball leagues for many years. He was and is a beloved husband, father and grandfather.
His funeral will be held at 10:00AM, on Wednesday, May 14, in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St. Southbridge. Burial will follow in North Cemetery, Sturbridge.
