SOUTHBRIDGE: Russell W. Anderson, 68, of 60 Union Street, Southbridge, MA was called home on July 27, 2017 by his loving Lord & Savior, at VA West Roxbury, Boston, MA, with his daughter Kara by his side, due to Multiple Sclerosis and many other illnesses he obtained during Combat Service in his Vietnam Tour in the US Army during 1967-1968. He proudly served his country in the US Army for 4 years and the MA National Guards for 8 years receiving multiple Service Awards, Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal for Valor, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Medal, Expert Badge Rifle, and Valorous Unit Award. He was born to George and Anita Bombard Anderson on April 3, 1949 in Southbridge, MA. Russell attended Charlton Schools and went to the Job Corp. He worked for many years at American Optical Co. and Schotts Fiber Optics before retiring due to his illness. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. When he was well, he enjoyed fishing, golfing and going to dinner with family and friends. He was homebound due to his illnesses, but didn’t miss watching one Patriots or Red Sox Game at home.
He had two daughters. His daughter Kirsten Anderson predeceased him on May 30, 2009. His daughter Kara Anderson Aviles of North Brookfield, MA was his caregiver. His four grandchildren are, Kristopher Anderson, Jinessa Anderson, Antonio Aviles and Brandon Aviles. His three great grandchildren are Logan Anderson, Raymond Messier, and Luna Vessio. Russell was one of ten children. He leaves his brother Edward and his wife Lisa Marcucci Anderson, his brother Robert whose wife Linda Carlson Anderson predeceased him, his brothers Garry Anderson and Gregg Anderson predeceased him. His sisters Patti Rudski and her late husband Ron Rudski, Joanne Anderson, Beth Anderson and her husband George Beauregard, Karen McQuade and her husband Bill McQuade and Lianne Anderson of Worcester.. Several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours Tuesday August 1 from 5:00-7:00, at Belanger-Bullard Funeral home in Southbridge.
The Funeral Mass will be Wednesday August 2 at 10am, St Josephs Church in Charlton, H. Putnam Rd. Charlton. Please go directly to church.
Burial will take place on Thursday, August 10th at 11:00 A.M. in West Ridge Cemetery, Main Street, Charlton, MA
No Flowers please. Donations should be sent to Center of Hope. The family would like to thank and his caregivers over the past 30 years, all the Veteran and private hospitals that gave him care, and the Center of Hope for helping with some of his transportation.
