SOUTHBRIDGE: Rose Lillian (Rivard) Griswold, age 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital in Bridgeport, CT, after a long illness. She was born on February 9, 1944, in Providence, RI to Robert and Rose (Prendi) Rivard. Rose married her first husband, James Melander, on September 29, 1962. Together, they had a son, James. After his passing, she later married her second husband, James Griswold, on September 3, 1966. They completed their family when they had their son, Brian. Rose worked at American Optical in Southbridge, MA for 15 years. She then decided to stay home to devote her time to her family. Rose loved the Christmas season; she wished every day would be like Christmas. She was a big fan of the New England sports teams, especially the Bruins, you would always find her watching a game on her TV. She loved to take trips to the casino, and to attend Bingo games. She enjoyed listening to country music and had attended quite a few live concerts throughout her years. She also loved animals, always had a family pet, and for the last few years, her house has been a home to her beloved cats, Gizmo and Titan. Of course, what she loved the most was her family. Her love, care, and concern for family and friends was always evident. Even on her toughest of days, she was always asking about how others were doing. Rose was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Much love and respect for her shined so brightly. Rose is survived by her son James Melander (Anna) of Thompson, CT; son Brian Griswold (Kerri-Lyn) of Southbridge, MA; sister Sandra Boutelle (Curt) of Southbridge, MA; brother Bobby Rivard of Webster, MA; sister-in-law Marion Champigny of Sturbridge, MA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amber, Brian (BJ), Zachary, Josh, Broderick, Bryce, and many loved nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces. Rose was predeceased by her husband’s James Melander and James Griswold, and her parents, Robert and Rose Rivard. Family, friends, and others whose lives Rose touched are invited to calling hours that will be held at the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge, MA from 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022. A private burial will be held at a later date.
