SOUTHBRIDGE:  Robert G. Benoit, 76, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at The Meadows at Kindred Hospital, following an illness.

 He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeanne Benoit (Mercier); his daughter, Rebecca McManus (Benoit) and her husband Kevin McManus; his daughter-in-law, Doreen Benoit (Pontbriand); his three grandchildren, Malory Jimenez (Benoit) and her husband Jonathan Jimenez, Andrew Benoit, and Heather McManus; and his two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Jordan Jimenez. He was predeceased by his seven siblings, five brothers and three sisters; his son, Brian Benoit in 2000; and a great-granddaughter, Janessa Jimenez in 2009.

 Robert was born in Southbridge on October 6, 1934, the son of the late Alfred and Elsie Benoit (Wade).

 He attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and Cole Trade School in Southbridge. He then served in the US Navy from 1952-1956 during the Korean War and on reserve from 1956-1960. He worked at Russell Harrington Cutlery and later the American Optical Company until it closed. He then went on to work at the United Lens Company until retirement.

 Before becoming ill he enjoyed watching sports, playing cards, reading, crossword puzzles, and his daily walks around town with his wife. He will be greatly missed by his family.

 A private graveside service will be held. There are no calling hours.
