Sturbridge: Richard E. Butterworth, 61, of 250 New Boston Rd. died Saturday, April 23 at
Harrington Memorial Hospital after being stricken ill at home. He leaves his wife of thirty-
seven years Leatrice (Seidell) Butterworth, two daughters Karen Butterworth and Joyce
Butterworth both of Sturbridge, a grandson Alex Fontanilles of Sturbridge, an aunt
Dominca " Mickey" Curran of Longmeadow, and several cousins. Born in Springfield the
son of Robert and Stella (Brzys) Butterworth and lived in the area most of his life. He
graduated from Tantasqua Regional High School and attended classes at Springfield
Community College. He served with the US Navy. He was a loss control field representative for Insurance Services
Offices. He was a retired police officer for the town of Sturbridge, also a past Civil
Defense Director, Water and Sewer Commissioner, and a former member of the Zoning
Board of Appeals. He was a member of the Quinnebaug Lodge of Masons, The Melha
Shriners in Springfield and was a member of it's Directors unit. Calling hours are FIVE PM
