Raymond Moulton
June 24, 1921 — February 16, 2008
CHARLTON: Raymond H. Moulton, 86, of Charlton, died Saturday, February 16, 2008, after an illness. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Lorraine (LaFleche) Moulton in July 2006. He leaves one son, Raymond Moulton, Jr. and his fiancee, Sheryl Parker, of Oakham; a daughter, Patricia Moulton of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren, Carolyn Moulton, Tracy Peterson, and Colleen Shields; and four great-grandchildren, Austin and Travis Baker, and Ethan and Owen Peterson.
He was born on June 24, 1921, the son of Herbert and Minnie (Sibley) Moulton, and lived in the area all his life.
He retired in 1974 from Fendall Co. of Chicago, and prior, he worked for American Optical for 30 years as a development technician. He was a member of the Army Air Corps during WWII, and served as 2nd lieutenant of the 389th Bombardment Group. He was shot down, captured, and was a prisoner of war for 14 months at Stalag Luft III in Sagan, Germany. He had received various medals, including a Purple Heart. He was senior vice commander of the Ex-POW Group. He was a 32nd degree Mason at the Quinnebaug Lodge of Masons. He belonged to the Doric Chapter, the Knights Templar, and the Melha Shriners in Springfield. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his beagles.
His funeral will be private. He will be laid to rest next to his wife, Lorraine, in Arlington National Cemetery, where he will receive full military honors. Memorial contributions in Ray\'s memory can be made to DAV National Service Foundation, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY 41076.
