Sturbridge - Ralph Wesley "Wes" Gilbert Jr., 71, died Thursday, September 14, 2017 in his home after an illness. He leaves two daughters, Kelly Gilbert and her fiance, Sean Anderson, of Petersham and Laura Gilbert of Shrewsbury; his sister Cynthia Kennison and her husband, John, of New Braintree; three grandchildren, Nathan Gilbert, Samuel Doshas, Celso Cabrera Gilbert and a great grandson, Tanner Gilbert; and a nephew and niece, Kendall Kennison and Jane Kennison.
Born November 11, 1945 in Mineola, New York, the son of the late Dr. Ralph W. Gilbert and Phyllis Murdock Gilbert, he grew up in Rockville Centre, LI, with summers in Sturbridge. He graduated from Lee Academy and attended Worcester Junior College.
Wes was an independent salesman for True to Form Business for many years. Earlier, he worked as an award-winning auto mechanic, service manager and salesman.
Wes served on the Sturbridge Planning Board, and was a former member of the Lions Club. He was an active member of the Big Alum Lake Association.
He grew up boating and skiing on Big Alum Lake, and for years enjoyed adventuring out on the ocean from Westerly, Rhode Island, where he kept a boat.
Wes's insights and sound advice will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
Calling hours are 5 to 8PM on Thursday, September 21, at the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy Street, Southbridge. Burial will be private.
