Paul J. Simpson

STURBRIDGE/WARE: Paul J. Simpson, 78, passed away on February 9, 2025, in Wing Hospital following an illness.

Paul is remembered by his two sons, Matthew J. Simpson and his wife Holly of Sturbridge, and Andrew P. Simpson and his wife Christy of Ware. He is also survived by his brother, David W. Simpson and his wife Marcia (Garieri) of Sturbridge; his sisters, Linda R. Bouthillier and her husband Bruce of Dudley, and Diane Simpson of Holland; and three beloved grandchildren, William, Ingrid, and Heidi. He fondly leaves behind a niece, three nephews and their families, as well as his former wife, Jane (Rogers) Simpson of Sturbridge. 

Born in Worcester, Paul was the son of the late William T. and Evelyn (Davidson) Simpson and had lived in the area for his entire life. He graduated from Tantasqua Regional High School in 1964 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from UMASS in 1969. Following his education, Paul proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Paul worked as an insurance underwriter and later as a case worker for the Massachusetts Department of Public Welfare. Throughout his life, he was actively engaged in his community as a past treasurer of the Sturbridge Lion's Club and was honored with Lifetime Membership serving for over 50 years. Paul was also a former member of the Hamilton Rod and Gun Club and the National Association of Life Underwriters. In his younger days, he was an avid hunter and target archer, reflecting his love for the outdoors. 

Paul J. Simpson will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A funeral service will be held at 7 PM on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, located at 51 Marcy St., Southbridge. Calling hours will take place from 5 PM to 7 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
