SOUTHBRIDGE – Nora (Morton) Salvo, 86, died peacefully Tuesday, September 29, at Oakwood Rehab and Nursing Center in Webster. She leaves four children, Jim Salvo, and his wife, Sandy, of Pensacola, FL, John Salvo, and his wife, Christine, of Wesley Chapel, FL, Rose Ann Reed, of Southbridge, and Lorraine Nalepovic, and her husband, Frank, of Monroe, CT; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph A. Salvo, and her brother, William Morton.
Nora was born in Ashington, Northumberland, England, the daughter of the late John and Selena (Coxon) Morton. She graduated from the Royal Academy of Nursing in London and served as a nurse during World War II in London.
Nora was one of the founders of a poetry group at the Arts Center many years ago, which eventually became the Poet’s Parlor. She enjoyed writing and sharing her poetry. Nora was a loving mother and enjoyed being with her family. She also loved bowling, walking, and anything pertaining to nature. She was a member of the Elm St. Congregational Church for many years and participated in visiting the elderly in their homes. She also belonged to a ladies group called the Chit Chat Club.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Oakwood Rehab and Nursing Center, and also the Hospice Service for all their care.
A calling hour will be held from 11AM to 12PM, Tuesday, October 12, in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge. A funeral service will follow at 12:30PM, Tuesday, October 12, at Elm St. Congregational Church, Elm St., Southbridge.
