Michael Lazo

STURBRIDGE:  Michael Dhosi Lazo, 76,  of Mashapaug Road, died Sunday, May 19, at Southbridge  Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Southbridge.  He leaves his wife Marlene (James) Lazo of Sturbridge, ex-wife Dorothy (Young) Cooper of Mashpee, 2 daughters Tamela (Lazo) White and her husband John of Denver, CO, Erica (Lazo) Lancellotti and her husband Dante of Darien, CT, 4 brothers Sam Lazo of Southbridge, Christie Lazo of Fairfax, VA, Harry Lazo of Southbridge, Jimmy Lazo of Southbridge, 2 grandchildren Dante Michael Lancellotti, Eric James Lancellotti, and several nephews and nieces.  Michael was born in Southbridge, Massachusetts the son of Dhosi (Petro Kita) Lazo and Elizabeth (Kota) Lazo who came from Albania to the U.S. in the 1930’s to make their home in Massachusetts.  Michael lived in Southbridge most of his life.  He graduated from Cole Trade High School and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. at the end of the Korean Conflict.  Michael owned and operated MDL Pools for 30 years.  He also worked for the Massachusetts Attorney General Francis Bellotti’s campaign manager and was the Worcester area Coordinator.  He also owned and managed Michael’s Steak House and worked for the Worcester County Sheriff’s Department. He also was an iron worker in the Boston area and a builder of fine homes and businesses.  Michael served on the Southbridge Town Council, was a member of the Tri-Community Exchange Club and was a member of the Young Democrats. At one time he trained with the Red Sox in Florida.  His Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 31, at the Holland Congregational Church, 11 Sturbridge Road, Holland.  Burial with full military honors will follow at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA.  There are no calling hours.  Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy Street, Southbridge is directing arrangements.  Flowers can be sent to the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home.  Memorial donations may be made to the Holland Congregational Church Building Fund, 11 Sturbridge Road, Holland, MA 01521.
