SOUTHBRIDGE: Maurice St. Laurent, of 14 Cathy Lane, passed away peacefully at the age of 86, on the morning of August 6, 2021, surrounded by loved ones from near and far. Maurice was born on October 27th, 1934 in Windsor Mills P.Q., Canada, the seventh of twelve children to Frederic and Marie Anne (Chenevert) St. Laurent. He grew up in Canada and emigrated to the United States in 1955, settling in Southbridge, Massachusetts, where he would remain for the rest of his life.
To those who knew and loved Maurice, he was known as a man of incredible work ethic, unwavering faith, and a joyous spirit. He was known to work tirelessly and always with a smile on his face, including the twenty-two years he worked as the Superintendent for Notre Dame Cemetery.
Maurice's first loves were his wife and children, but in his spare time, he would often refinish old furniture, making it shine like new. It was said that one of the ways that Maurice showed his love was through the labors of his hands. He also enjoyed being among nature, hunting, fishing, and chopping wood by the sweat of his brow.
Maurice was a devoted Catholic, and to his dying day he wore a gold cross given to him by his late mother. Along with his parents, Maurice has joined his sister Simone and his brothers Gerard, Leo-Paul, and Rodrigue in the Kingdom of Heaven.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Marie (Albert) St. Laurent, and his four children Daniel and his wife Kelly, of California; Paul and his wife Jean of California; Marc of Southbridge and his daughter Diane Cardrant of Southbridge; along with an extended family including eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his brothers Roland, Ferdinand, Marcel, Raymond, Jean-Guy, Collin, and Jacques, as well as his sister Pierrette.
Although our loss is immense and our grief immeasurable, his family also celebrates his passing, for his labors have ended and he is in the loving arms of God.
Maurice’s Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, August 11th at 11 AM at Notre Dame Church, St. John Paul II Parish 446 Main St. Southbridge. Burial will follow in New Notre Dame Cemetery.
