SPRINGFIELD - Marion (Mackenzie) Neilson, 88, formerly of Springfield, died Sunday, April 25th at Overlook Healthcare in Charlton. Her husband, Russell A.V. Neilson, died in 1998. She leaves her daughter, Carol McKinstry, and her husband, Dennis, of Sturbridge; two granddaughters, Sara M. Cleaves and Laura A. McKinstry. She was predeceased by her son, Russell A.V. Neilson Jr., who died in 1953.
She was born in Springfield, the daughter of the late Raymond and Minnie (Cowles) Mackenzie. She graduated from Technical High School in Springfield in 1939 and attended American International College for two years. She worked at Western Mass Electric Co. for five years, and Mass Mutual Life Insurance Co. for five years.
Marion was a Lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Springfield Chapter #143, and was a member of the Daughters of the Nile and Rainbow Girls. She volunteered at Shriner’s Hospital in Springfield.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM, Thursday, April 29, in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Parker St. Springfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 361 Sumner Avenue, Springfield, MA 01108 or to Shriner’s Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
