SOUTHBRIDGE: Lucy (Bennett) Brunell, 94, formerly of Southbridge, died Friday, Jan. 17, at Overlook Healthcare in Charlton.
Her husband, Romeo Brunell, died in 1999. She leaves her daughter, Susan Brunell, and her husband, Stephen Grenier ,of Woodstock, CT, sisters, Marion Maloney of Feeding Hills, Edna Vallee of West Brookfield, Hazel LaVallee of Sturbridge, Grace Therrien of Maine; grandchildren Sarah Samson, Lisa Barnum, Glenn Charland, Darleen McKinstry, and Debra Cammarota; great grandchildren Rebecca Barnum and Alex Sansom, and a great great grandchild Landon Barnum.
She was predeceased by 3 sons Joseph Beaudry and Roland Beaudry, a son Edward Brunell in 2004, and a daughter Barbara Charland in 2012, a granddaughter Megan L. Kleczka in 2007, and a great grandson Joshua Barnum in 2008.
She was born in Holland, MA, the daughter of Ernest and Mary (Battersby) Bennett and lived in the area most of her life.
She attended Holland schools and Hitchcock Free Academy in Brimfield.
Lucy had a special gift for painting and gave a gift of one of her paintings to each of her family
members this past Christmas. She also enjoyed making puzzles. She loved dogs, watching and identifying birds at the bird feeders, and gardening.
Her statement was “my purpose in life was to raise happy, healthy, children and have a happy family.”
Her funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at The James C. Nicholl Chapel at the Overlook Community, 88 Masonic Home Rd., in Charlton.
Calling hours are 5:00PM to 7:00PM Tuesday, Jan, 21, in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St. Southbridge.
