WARE: Leona E. (Ford) Cournoyer, 91, of Shoreline Drive, passed away Wednesday, December 9 at home after an illness.
She is survived by her daughter Linda Bertrand and her husband Robert of Ware and Irene Bouchard and her husband Michael of Port Orange, Florida; six sisters: Ida Czyewski of Southbridge, Dorothy Theodoss of Southbridge, Rita Renaud of Charlton, Lorraine Pellitier of Florida, Shirley Simpson of Ingleside, Michigan and Doris Valencourt of Florida; a brother: Roger Ford of Southbridge; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Leona was predeceased by her husband, Leopole Cournoyer in 1956; 4 sisters: Mildred Stanhope, Thelma Lameroux, Ruth Farraher, and Beatrice Budrow; and 3 brothers: Albert "Bill" Ford, Russell Ford and Donald Ford.
Leona was born on July 8, 1924 in Southbridge, the daughter of the late Wilbert and Rose (Girard) Ford and she lived in the area most of her life.
Leona retired from American Optical in 1975 where she was an inspector of optics. Following retirement, she worked at Ames and JC Penney. Leona enjoyed playing Bingo, crossword puzzles, card games, crafts and trips to Foxwoods. She was a member of Notre Dame Church in Southbridge.
