STURBRIDGE - Laura Mae (Stone) Simpson, 96, of Main Street, died in her home, Monday, July 21, 2008 after an illness. She leaves a granddaughter, Elizabeth DiFederico, and her husband, Steven, of Sturbridge; a grandson, Michael Martel, and his wife, Patricia, of Sturbridge; great-grandchildren Chelsea DiFederico, Emily DiFederico, Hannah Martel, and Grace Martel; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Simpson; a sister, Charlotte Smith of Fiskdale; nieces and nephews. Her husband of 60 years, David H. Simpson, died on the same date in 1993. She was predeceased by her daughter, Judith Martel, who died in 2005; and her son, Donald Simpson, who died in 2001. A brother, Clarence Stone, and a sister, Lillian Chase, also predeceased her.
Mrs. Simpson was born on December 28, 1911, in Fiskdale, the daughter of the late Clarence and Grace (George) Stone, and lived in the Sturbridge area most of her life. She was a member of the Sturbridge Federated Church and belonged to the Sturbridge Senior Center.
A calling hour will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home, following the calling hour. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Southbridge, MA.
