WALES: Laraine S. Wickers, 68, of Wales, died Thursday, April 10 in her home, surrounded by her family.
She leaves her daughter, Kelly Barnes and her husband Mike, of WA; two sisters, Adele Glita and her husband John, and Carol Herslow and her husband John, both of NJ; four treasured grandchildren, Mackenzie and Braden Barnes, Morgan Wickers-Lowell, and Brent Wickers; a daughter in law, Laure Wickers of Brimfield, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat Mystique. She was predeceased by her husband, Brent Wickers, and a son, Shane Wickers.
Laraine was born on January 14, 1946 in Orange, NJ to the late Ernest R. and Doris (Conover) Simpson. She took pride in working with students as a special education teacher’s aide in the Longmeadow public schools, retiring in 2003. A member of the Massachusetts Teachers’ Association, she considered herself fortunate to work in a field she treasured. Laraine loved her grandchildren, who were the center of her world and she devoted her life to being there for them. She touched the lives of so many she knew, as wife, mother, sister, grandmother, teacher, and friend, with her smile and her giving, generous heart. She was loving, caring, and devoted, and blessed the lives of every person who had the honor to know her. She was a lover of animals, had a very eclectic sense of style, and she maintained a sense of humor until the very end.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St. Southbridge. A calling hour will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Brimfield Cemetery, Brimfield.
