L. Betty Barr 94, of Woodstock Connecticut and East Brimfield Massachusetts passed away on Thursday September 21, at Davis Place Danielson Connecticut, surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of 74 years of the late Wayne T. Barr, they were married October 31, 1944. She was born November 11,1922 in Anson, Maine, daughter of the late Ralph Gilman and Lottie(Graham)Gilman. In her earlier years she was employed by Mr. Albert Wells as a recording secretary for the initial cataloguing of artifacts for display in the now Old Sturbridge Village, Sturbridge Massachusetts. She also worked at Simonds Machine Company Southbridge Massachusetts, in the accounting department.
As time passed, she enjoyed working with her brother-in-law and sister George and Feralyn Watson in their antiques and restoration business. Her love of antiques led to a position at Old Sturbridge Village where she eventually assumed the position as Costume Director.
After retirement Betty enjoyed crocheting, reading and time with family. she was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter Cheryl and her husband Hank Medlyn of Woodstock, Connecticut, two granddaughters Melissa Oloff and her husband Ed of Canterbury Connecticut, Sarah Medlyn-Chuck and her husband Brian of Pomfret, Connecticut, 4 great grandchildren, McKaylin, Kelsey, Matthew and Justin as well as several nieces, nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Feralyn Watson, Arthur Gilman, Emily Faxon, Harry Gilman, Barbara Graham and Shirley Gilman.
A private family service will be held on October 14th In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104
