Charlton: Judith “Judy” A. (Cummings) Crowley, 77, of New Spencer Rd. died Tuesday, April 15 in the Overlook Masonic Nursing Home. She leaves a son, Daniel Crowley and his wife Annette, of Charlton; two daughters, Debra Mann and her husband David, of AZ., and Darlene Tully and her husband Dennis, of Charlton; a brother Richard Cummings of Charlton; a sister Mary-Jane Gillespie of Charlton; a sister-in-law Frankie Cummings of Charlton; six grandchildren, Eric Tully and his wife Jamie, Megan Tully, Emily Tully, Sarah Crowley, Lindsay Mann, and Chelsea Mann; three great-grandchildren, Craig Tully, Gavin Tully, and Cameron Ingels; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also leaves her long-time devoted friend Kathy Simons. She was predeceased by two brothers, Donald Cummings and Dan Cummings, and two sisters, Lois Foskett and Audrey Hill.
Judy was born in Charlton, daughter of the late James G. and Bessie W. (Wolfenden) Cummings and graduated from Charlton High School. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 36 years, starting in 1967. In 1971, she was promoted to Postmaster, and worked as the Charlton Depot Postmaster for 30 years until her retirement in 2002.
She was a member of the Charlton High School Alumni Association, serving as its secretary for many years. She was a longtime member of the Charlton City United Methodist Church, the Charlton Helping Hands Society, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed sewing, and especially making cherished quilts for her family members. She was an avid shopper, and loved baking breads and making jellies. Above all else, Judy enjoyed spending time with her beloved family, who were the center of her world. She touched the lives of many people with her smile, and giving and generous heart. She will be missed by many.
Calling hours will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy Street, Southbridge.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, April 18, 2014 at the Charlton City United Methodist Church, 74 Stafford St., Charlton. Burial will follow at Northside Cemetery, Cemetery Rd., Charlton.
