SOUTHBRIDGE/WEBSTER – Joseph Zacek, 100, formerly of Westfield, died Sunday, June 26, in Oakwood Nursing and Rehab Center. He leaves his nephew and caretaker, Joseph Funcasta, of Southbridge, and his nephew, Joseph F. Ross, of East Longmeadow. He was predeceased by four sisters.
He was born in Westfield, the son of the late, William and Bronislawa (Witsowska) Zacek, and grew up in the area. Joseph graduated from Westfield Trade School in 1929. He served as an Army Air Corp Master Sergeant for four years in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Joseph worked for the Sealtest Company in Springfield as an Ice cream Supervisor and retired in 1976 after more than 30 years of service.
He belonged to the Mount Moriah Masonic Lodge in Westfield where he was a Mason for over 50 years. He enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers, and was a skilled carpenter, building his own home.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, July 9, in Pine Hill Cemetery, Court St., Westfield, MA. The Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements. An online guestbook is available at www.BelangerFuneralHome.com
