John Palmer
April 6, 1926 — April 12, 2013
Fiskdale- John C. Palmer, 87, of Holland Rd. Died Friday, April 12, 2013 at
Kindred Healthcare at Oakwood, in Webster. He leaves his wife
Barbara(Curtis) Palmer. His first wife Therese Meunier Palmer died
December 3, 1993. He also is survived by 4 sons Joseph Palmer of
Fiskdale, Marc Palmer of Holland, Ward Palmer of Fiskdale, Kevin Palmer
of Fiskdale, a sister Doris Durrin of Fithcburg, 7 grandchildren and 6
great grandchildren. A sister Islay Farland predeceased him.
He was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, the son of John and Irene
(Tucker) Palmer and lived in the area most of his life. He graduated
from Cole Trade High School in Southbridge and Worcester Jr. College
where he earned his engineering degree. He served in the US Navy during
WWII.
He worked full time for Thomas Palmer as a Mason. He worked nights and weekends
for 10 years on his land until it became known as Hemlock Ridge Golf Course, which
he owned and operated for the past 50 years. In 1992 John turned the helm of the
course over to his 4 sons- Marc, Joe, Ward and Kevin. He enjoyed spending his time
outdoors.
The family would like to thank the staff for their care and compassion
to John and his family during his illness.
His funeral will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, April 18, in the
Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St, Southbridge. Burial will
follow in North Cemetery, Sturbridge. Calling hours are 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm to
8:00pm Wednesday, April 17 in the funeral home.
