SOUTHBRIDGE – John P. Laliberte, 81, of Paige Hill, died Thursday, February 11, at Overlook Masonic home, after a long illness. His wife, Claire (Sandgren) Laliberte died in February 1989. He leaves one son, Jay P. Laliberte, and his wife LouAnn, of Southbridge; two grandchildren, Joshua and Ashley, also of Southbridge; two sisters, his twin, Anne Quinn, and her husband Thomas, of Sturbridge and Joan Carl, of Aurora, CO; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Ernie Jalbert, of Southbridge; brother-in-law Harry Sandgren of CT; long time friend, Doris Libuda and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother, Paul.
He was born on June 25, 1928, in Southbridge, the son of the late Oswald J. and Helen (Tenant) Laliberte, and lived in the area his entire life. He graduated from Mary E. Wells High School in 1947. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. He was employed by Southbridge Lumber and Supply, and worked as a manager for 25 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the VFW in Southbridge and the Northeast Lumberman’s Association.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday, February 16, in St. Mary’s Church, Hamilton St., Southbridge. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Organ Restoration Fund at St. Mary’s Church, 263 Hamilton St., Southbridge, MA 01550 or to a charity of your choice. The Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements.
