STURBRIDGE: John Lawrence Hanson, 82, of Sturbridge died on February 3, 2018 at UMass Medical Center after a period of declining health.
John was born in Southbridge on July 15, 1935 to Dr. Albert and Gertrude Claflin Hanson. John was predeceased by his wife Susan Guertin Hanson. He leaves his children John Claflin Hanson and his wife Christine McCooe Hanson of Holland, Bradford Royce Hanson of Sturbridge, and Audrey Hanson Davis and her husband Marq of Grafton. He also leaves two much loved grandsons, Charles R. Davis and Austin R. Davis of Grafton.
John attended Wilbraham Academy and graduated from the former Wells High School in Southbridge. He served in the Navy. For many years he was general manager of McKinstry Fuel Co. in Southbridge. He was also a self-employed plumber.
John enjoyed traveling and boating, especially his times on Lake Winnipesaukee with his wife, Susan. They loved the German Shepherd dogs they rescued over the years. John was a friend of Bill W for over 35 years.
Burial will be private.
