CHARLTON: Howard B. Seifert Sr. 105, died Tuesday, September 6, 2023 in his home.
He was the oldest living Charlton resident.
His wife Dorothy (Cook) Seifert died in Oct. 31, 2006. He leaves a son Stanley W. Seifert of Charlton, a daughter Judith Maskell of Charlton 9 grandchildren Ginger, Bonnie, Gary, Kelly, Lara, Matthew, Stephanie, Todd, 11 Great grandchildren and 4 Great-Great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son Howard B. Seifert Jr, Feb. 15, 2023, a grandson Neil Seifert in 2015, and a brother Kenneth Seifert.
He was born in Evansville, IN. the son Cornelius and Ida (Schreiber) Seifert and lived in the area till he was 19 years old.
He graduated from Benjerman Bosse High School in 1937. He then joined the US Army and served his country in the European Theater and the Asian Pacific Theater. He earned 2 European theater Bronze Stars, 2 Asiatic Bronze Stars, and a good conduct medal. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart. After the war, he returned to school at Fanny Farmer Cooking School in Boston.
He retired from the American Optical Company after 30 years of service. He also worked part time for the Masonic Home, and Leicester Jr. College.
He enjoyed hunting, playing the piano, cooking Sunday dinners, baking his famous apple pies, a good game of scat and his family.
In 2016 he received The Boston Post Cane award.
His funeral will be held Friday, September 8, at 11AM in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St. Southbridge. Burial will follow in West ridge Cemetery, Charlton.
