Barre: Harry W. Pearson, age 92, of Barre, a loving husband, father and “papa”, passed away December 17, 2016 surrounded by his devoted family. He was a brave WWII Navy Veteran and was a signalman in the Normandy Invasion. He was also an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
He leaves his wife of 70 years, May D. (Openshaw) Pearson of Quaboag on the Common, West Brookfield, an older brother, Eddie Pearson of Worcester, two sons, Harry N. Pearson and wife, Glenna of Brookfield, and Randy Pearson and wife, Barbara of Barre. He left four grandchildren, Jonathan Pearson, Aaron Pearson and wife Sara, Sherry Donahue and husband Tom, and Russell Seitz and wife Naomi. There were also eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild all of whom he loved dearly. He also left many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his Swedish Immigrant parents, Johan and Maria Pearson of Greendale, Worcester, sisters, Helen Pasquale, Elsie Mason, Mildred Pearson and brother, Roy Pearson.
He was a graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester. After the war, he was a long-term employee of Norton Company as a diamond wheel molder. He enjoyed gardening and gemstone cutting and setting.
Harry and his wife May retired to Florida in the 1970s and returned in the ‘90s to be close to their families.
A Memorial service is planned for Sunday, January 8, 2017 at 2 PM at Sturbridge Federated Church, 4 Maple Street, Sturbridge, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local pet shelter.
