George A. Derouin, 90, of Southbridge, passed away at the Holyoke Soldiers Home on
Friday, March 2nd.
He was born in Chicago, IL, the son of Andrew and Maryann (St. George)
Derouin.
He leaves 2 brothers, Joseph and his wife Victoire of Ft. Myers, FL, Raymond and his wife Maureen of Auburn; 2 sisters, Sr. Theresa Derouin, SSJ of Holyoke and Marie Boardman of Rocky Hill, CT. He also leaves nephews Richard DeRouin of W. Deerfield, Andrew DeRouin of Cape May, NJ, Frederick Boardman, Jr. of Tolland, CT, Michael Hafferty of Dudley; nieces Cecile Decatur of Ft. Myers, FL, Elaine Friberg of Belchertown,
Anne Miner of Plainville, CT, Joan Mullaney of Tolland, CT, Sharon Mattus of Millbury and many great-nieces and nephews.
George graduated from Cole Trade School in Southbridge and enlisted in the Navy in 1942. He was in the 33rd Naval Construction Battn and swerved in the Pacific Theatre, participating in the Battle for Guadalcanal and following actions in the Solomon Islands.
He was employed at American Optical Company as a tinsmith and welder, retiring in 1992. George was also a member of the VFW #6055 in Southbridge.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Holyoke Soldiers Home for the loving care and support.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 7th, from the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy Street, Southbridge with a Mass at 11 AM in St. Mary Church of Blessed John Paul II Parish, Hamilton Street, Southbridge.
Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Woodstock Rd. Southbridge.
A calling will be held from 9:30AM to 10:30AM in the funeral home.
