George L. Carpenter , 82, of Yankee Drummer Drive, died Tuesday, March 20th at Wing Memorial Hospital in Palmer. He leaves his wife of 61 years Dorothy (Lapine) Carpenter, three sons John H. Carpenter of Ware, James F. Carpenter of LaQuinta, Ca., Kenneth G. Carpenter of New Britton, Ct., a daughter Kathleen Delanski of West Warren, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother John H. Carpenter. He was born in Montague the son of the late Lorrin and Isabelle (Brophy) Carpenter.
He was educated in the Springfield School system and was a WWII Navy Veteran serving on the PT Boat PLE870. He and his wife owned and operated the Warren Cash Market until 1977 and previously worked at US Rubber in Chicopee. He was a member of the Lodge of Mason in Belchertown, the Warren Lionâ??s where he was past King Lion, the American Legion, Warren VFW, and the Rotary Club. He enjoyed model ship building, collecting caps, and computers.
His funeral will be held at 1:00PM friday, March 23, in the Doherty Funeral Home 40 Bacon St. Warren. Burial will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery in Springfield. A calling hour will be held at Noon to 1:00PM before the service.
