George \"Bucky\" White, Jr.
August 12, 1930 — May 13, 2021
SOUTHBRIDGE, MA: George “Bucky” Waldron White Jr., 90, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2021 at Southbridge Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
George is survived by his loving wife of 20 years Elaine “Cookie” (Dimetri) White of Southbridge; 2 stepsons Bryan Dimetri of Southbridge, Paul Dimetri of Southbridge; His brother Millard White of Haverhill, MA; granddaughter Emma Dimetri of Boscawen, NH; his grandson Adam White and great- granddaughter Brooke White of Plaistow, NH; several nieces and nephews; and his brother-in-law Hans Assang of Atkinson, NH.
George was born in Atkinson, NH son of the late George W. White Sr., and Lillian (Buzzell) White. He was predeceased by his first wife of 43years Maria Assang; 2 sons George W. White II, Bruce White; daughter Heidi White; 2 brothers William White, Edward White; 6 sisters Lillian Merrill, Louise Sturges, Roberta Faxon, Georgette Whiteneck, Mary King, and Orestella Ashford.
He graduated high school at Atkinson Academy in Atkinson, NH with a specialty in the sciences. His class was the last class to graduate from the Academy. George worked as a mason’s tender laborer, and then later worked as a short order cook.
George served as a Sargent in the US Army. He was stationed in Germany for two years and fought in WWII. During his time in the Army, he repaired radios and wheel and track vehicles, and leaned how to speak German and French.
George owned his own construction company called Bucky White Construction for 35 years. He was a member of the Local 111 Carpenters Union in Haverhill, MA for over 25years. Bucky was a Master Craftsmen in finish carpentry and could reproduce & restore from pictures on historic buildings. His specialty was creating custom staircases for clients
George had a love for baseball at a young age. He played baseball in school and while he was in the Amy. Later in life he played soft pitch softball, and managed a little league team in Atkinson, NH. He was a member of the Masons and the American Legion in Haverhill, MA.
George was an avid fisherman and hunter. He would go hunting with his grandson Adam and his son Bruce on the mountains.
He enjoyed spending time with his friends of Bill W. from AA, and inspired many being sober 14yrs.
George will always be remembered as the man who told the best stories and jokes
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday May 27th from 6-8pm
A graveside service for George will be held Sunday, June 6, at 1:30 PM in Atkinson Cemetery, 118 NH-121, Atkinson, NH 03811
