SOUTHBRIDGE: Gabriel LaFleche, 84, of Therese Ave. died Saturday, June 12, at St. Vincent Hospital after a short illness.
His wife Gloria (Renaud) LaFleche passed away in 2007.
He leaves three daughters Carol Lafleche and her husband Bruce Smith of Windham Maine; Deborah Lafleche and her husband Robert Vanooyen of Zephyrhills Florida and Brenda Larochelle and her husband Stephen of Dracut, three step children David McDonald and his wife Debra of Palmer, Kathryn Martiros and her husband Michael of Leicester, Karen Tremblay of Cherry Valley, and his grand-children, Aimee, Alan, Travis, Eben, Jessica, James, Erica, Matthew, Alyssa, Devin, Stephanie, Jillian and Casey, 4 great grandchildren and his former son-in-law Dennis Tremblay of Southbridge .
He was predeceased by his grandson Martin Smith, sister Susan Langevin, his step son Daniel McDonald Jr., and his former wife Theresa (Lavallee) LaFleche.
He was born in Southbridge, the son of Gabriel J. and Beatrice (Cournoyer) LaFleche and live in this area all his life. Graduated from Cole Trade High School in 1957.
He was a member of the National Guard and served in the 181st Engineering Battalion. He excelled at atomic demolition classes at Fort Devens. He worked at Sunrise Health Care in Worcester as a house keeping supervisor for 26 years.
He was a past Grand Night of the Knight of Columbus Detriana Council 199 for 5 years. He was a friend of Bill W since December 10, 1974.
Gabe and his wife Gloria enjoyed traveling to Disney, Disney cruises, Grateful Dead concerts, trips to Maine. He also had many good friends at TAG and Bill W.
Calling hours are 6 to 8PM on Thursday, June 17, in The Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St. Southbridge, MA. At Gabe's request Tie-dye shirts are highly encouraged.
His funeral Mass will be held at 10:00AM, Friday, June 18, in St. Joseph Church, 10 H Putnam Rd. Charlton, MA. Please go directly to church.
