Foster Munroe

Southbridge- Foster G. Munroe, 84, of Southbridge, MA passed away at home after an illness on Sunday, May 8, 2016.  He leaves his wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Bucchiacchio) Munroe.  Foster and Dorothy would have celebrated their 60^th wedding anniversary on July 4^th.  He also leaves one son, Kenneth J. Munroe and his wife Yvette of Southbridge and one daughter, Kathleen N. Geary of Jupiter, FL, five grandchildren, Megan Munroe of Spencer and Shawn, Katie, Rebecca, and Ryan Geary, all of Jupiter.

 

Foster was born in Berkeley, MA in 1931 to Raymond and Julia (Driscoll) Munroe, moving to Southbridge in 1942. He graduated from the former St. Mary’s High School in 1948.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army Security Agency (ASA) intelligence branch.  He was a master tool and die maker working many years at several tool and die companies, including both the American Optical and G&F Industries, retiring in 1998.

 

Foster was an avid reader and history buff and was known for his sense of humor.  Cherishing his Scottish heritage, he studied in depth the history of the country.  He also enjoyed fishing and hunting in his youth.  Foster was a member of several organizations, which included the Quinebaug Lodge of Masons A.F and A.M. in Southbridge, the Doric Royal Arch Chapter, life member of the Leonide J. Lemire VFW Post 6055, life member of ASA Korea, Past Exalted Ruler of the former Southbridge Lodge of Elks BPOE 1864 as well as the Fraternal Order of Eagles #334. Most importantly, Foster was a devoted husband and father and loved and enjoyed his grandchildren.

 

The family wishes to thank Overlook Hospice in Charlton, Visiting Angels of Southbridge and particularly nurses Kelly Macero and Mary Beth Trudeau who are now considered part of the family.

 

Foster’s Funeral will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016 from the Belanger Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 P.M. in the St. Mary’s Church of the St. John Paul II Parish, 243 Hamilton St., Southbridge.  Calling hours will be held from 9:30-11:30 A.M. at the funeral home just prior to the Mass.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Southbridge.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Foster’s memory to St. John Paul II Parish, 279 Hamilton St., Southbridge, MA 01550.
