SOUTHBRIDGE Esther (Barnes) Thorburn, 99, of 23 Jacobs Rd, died Wednesday, July 5th at home. Her husband of 41 years, Milton R. Thorburn died in 1981. She was born in Sturbridge on November 25, 1906, the daughter of Ernest G. and Elizabeth (Chamberland) Barnes. She leaves a step-son, Neil and his wife Sarah of Cincinnati, OH; a step-daughter, Linda Gorin and her husband, Malcolm of Haddam, CT; five step-grand children; six step-great-grandchildren, and a cousin Vernon (Butch) Jackson of Sturbridge. She attended Hitchcock Academy and Becker Business College. She was employed as an Assistant Innkeeper for 17 years at the Pulick House. She enjoyed entertaining and playing bridge.
Calling hours are 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, July 7th in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St, Southbridge.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 8th at the Sturbridge Federated Church, 8 Maple St., Sturbridge. Private burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Southbridge. Memorial contributions can be made to the Sturbridge Federated Church, PO Box 193, Sturbridge, MA 01566, or the Hospice Program at Overlook, PO Box 1000, Charlton, MA 01507.
