Estelle Caouette

CHARLTON: Estelle T. (Gravel) Caouette, 85, of 88 Masonic Home Road, Charlton, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 9, 2022 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle against Alzheimer's.  

She leaves behind her devoted husband of 50+ years, Roger H. Caouette, of Charlton, her daughter, Lori, and her husband, Steve Ohop, also of Charlton, and several close family members and longtime friends.  

Estelle was born in Southbridge, MA, on July 1, 1936, to Charles "Charlie" and Loretta (Cabana) Gravel.  She attended grade school at Sacred Heart and after graduating from Mary E. Wells High School in 1955, attended a secretarial school in Waltham, MA, that sparked her long career in office administration.  

Estelle worked as an assistant to the president of the American Optical Company (AO) for many years, before transferring to Schott Fiber Optics where she continued her career as a personnel administrator until retiring in 2000.  Even after retirement, Estelle continued to stay busy by volunteering to help with clerical work at the Fallon Clinic.  She was also a member of the Ladies of Saint Anne at St. John II Parish in Southbridge, MA. Estelle was kind, well-regarded and loved by all who knew her.  Despite a difficult fight against Alzheimer’s, she never complained and was always appreciative of others and kept a positive outlook on life.   

Estelle enjoyed camping trips in her earlier years, gardening, baking, doing jigsaw puzzles, long Sunday drives and frequent family vacations to Florida and the coast of Maine where she loved to walk on the beach and watch the sunset. 

Her family would like to thank the amazing staff and caregivers at The Overlook in Charlton. Their endless care, genuine compassion and tireless efforts allowed Estelle to live out her final golden years in comfort. She will truly be missed.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday January 12^th from 5-7PM at the Belanger Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St. Southbridge, MA Her funeral Mass will be held on Thursday January 13^th at 10:30AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 10 H Putnam Rd Extension, Charlton, MA. Burial will follow in New Notre dame Cemetery, Woodstock Rd. Southbridge.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask that donations be made in Estelle’s memory to St. Joseph’s Church, P.O. Box 338 - Charlton City, MA 01508.
