SOUTHBRIDGE: Elba Neris, 82 of Chestnut St. died Friday, July 16 surrounded by loved ones in her home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson.
She leaves behind her son Jose Cruz and daughter in law Carol Cruz who took care of her for many years during her battle. She also leaves behind her 3 daughters Elba Cruz of Puerto Rico, Mayra Cruz of Puerto Rico, Ana Burt of Cape Cod, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, several nephews, and nieces.
She was predeceased by her brother Jose Manuel Neris, and her sisters Carmen Neris, Olga Neris and Delia Neris.
She was born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico the daughter of the late Julio Neris and Ana Borges de Neris. She grew up riding horses and helping on her family’s farm. She was married to Emilio Cruz.
She moved to the area many years ago.
Elba worked for Fiber Optics Fabrication in Marlborough and Worcester for 20 years. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Parish.
She enjoyed singing with her son period music from PR. One of her favor hobbies was sewing. She also enjoyed watching Red Sox games on TV. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with the ones she loved.
Her funeral Mass will be held at 10AM on Tuesday, July 20, in Notre Dame Church part of the John Paul II Parishes.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
