Edwin Calcutt
February 25, 1925 — July 29, 2013
Sturbridge: Edwin J. Calcutt 88, of Shepard Rd. died peacefully at home with his loving wife, daughter Donna, and his cat Beanie by his side.
He was the husband of Lucille G. (Lavigueur) Calcutt for 65 years.
Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Edwin M. Calcutt of Straford NY. and James F. Calcutt and his wife Kimberly of Sturbridge: six daughters, Donna M. Calcutt of Fitchburg, Elaine Calcutt LeClair and her husband Michael of Holland, Nancy Calcutt and her husband Charles Doherty of Paducah Ky, Joyce Lewis and her husband Hiram of Norton, and twin daughters Janet Calcutt and June Calcutt both of Southbridge. He also leaves two sisters: Ruth Siok of Great Barrington, Jane Bulla of West Laurel MD. 7 grandsons and 3 great grandchildren.
He was born in Bridgeton NJ. the son of Edwin and Pheobe "Mae" (Cudworth) Calcutt. For the last 60 years he resided in the home he built in Sturbridge. He was a master craftsman, union carpenter for local #107 and millwright local #1121. He retired in 1989.
He was a founding member and former president of the Grand Trunk Trailblazers. In 2002 the Grand Trunk Trailblazers dedicated a bridge in his name off River Rd. in Sturbridge for his dedication, determination and community service. He was an avid bicyclist, skier, swimmer and outdoorsman. He was a "hands on Dad" who instilled a love and respect for nature and the environment.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Beacon Hospice for their loiving care and compassion, especially nurse Donna Jean Catino, and C.N.A.'s Ramona and Donna Marie.
His graveside service with full Military Honors will be held at 1:00PM, Tuesday, August 6, in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, 1390 Main St, Agawam, MA.
