SOUTHBRIDGE – Edward R. “Sunny” Arel, 79, of Charlton St., died, Tuesday, October 14, in St. Vincent’s Hospital after an illness. He leaves four daughters, Bonnie Arel, Brenda Buchanan, and Beverly Medina, all of Southbridge, and Barbara Forman of Stoughton; one brother, Orville Arel of Southbridge; one sister Barbara Zalewski of Webster; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was born in Sheldon, VT, on March 17, 1929, the son of the late Edward E. and Syble (Norris) Arel. Mr. Arel lived in the area most of his life, retiring from Tantasqua High School and the American Optical after many years of service. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Elks and Eagles VFW. He bartended at Jack’s Café and enjoyed playing cards.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, October 21, 2008 in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. An online obituary and guestbook for Edward is available at www.BelangerFuneralHome.com
