Southbridge – Dorothy M. (Douty) Clemence, age 92, of 201 Clemence Hill, died Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Beaumont Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center, Worcester.
Her husband, George H. Clemence Jr. died in 1970. She leaves two sons, George H. Clemence III and his wife Marie of Port St. Lucie, Fl., Richmond E. Clemence and his wife Althea of Southbridge; a daughter, Susie A. Simmonds and her husband Robert of Vero Beach, FL; a brother, Edward E. Douty Jr and his wife Suzanne of Sturbridge; two sisters, S. Claire Fortier of Fiskdale, Margaret E. Plimpton and her husband Edward of Sturbridge; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
She was born in Palmer, daughter of the late Edward E. and Mary E. (Callahan) Douty and grew up in Fiskdale. She moved to Southbridge after her marriage and raised her family there. In February 2008, she moved to the Lodge at Eddy Pond in Auburn. She was a retired home health aide having worked for Harrington Hospital.
Dorothy’s memorial service will be held in the Elm Street Congregational Church, 61 Elm Street, Southbridge, on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at 11:30 am. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 300 Fifth Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451 or the to Elm Street Congregational Church, PO Box 723, Southbridge, MA 01550. The family has entrusted the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home 51 Marcy St. with assististing funeral service arrangements.
