Donald Vibber

October 13, 1913 — July 2, 2006

SOUTHBRIDGE/WORCESTER; Donald C. Vibber died quietly on July 1 in Stafford Springs, CT. He was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on October 13, 1913 the son of Howard and Mary (Lane) Vibber. He graduated from South High in Worcester in 1930, and attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he received a degree in mechanical engineering in 1934. He did further course work at Northwestern University and Worcester Junior College. He was employed for many years in Worcester as an engineer at Rockwood Sprinkler Company and Heald Machine Company, after which he co-founded Worcester Automatic Machine Company. In 1960 he moved to Southbridge where he worked as Chief Engineer for Hyde Manufacturing Company until retirement when he moved back to Worcester where he became a beloved resident at the Goddard House. More recently he had been living at Homestead Manor and was there until last December. Since that time he has been in medical care facilities in Worcester and Stafford Springs, CT. He was a member of the First Unitarian Church in Worcester, the Athelstan Lodge, A.F. & A.M., Worcester, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the Worcester Engineering Society, the Community Management Club in Southbridge, and he was a Registered Professional Engineer in Massachusetts. His former wife Eloise Vibber resides in Rutland, VT. Surviving are two sons, David E. Vibber and his wife Rhea of Enfield CT, and John H. Vibber of Burlington, VT; three grandchildren Jessica Crampton, of Brockenhurst, England, Teri Lynn Vibber of Chicopee, MA, and Alan Vibber of Springfield MA.; two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Amelia Crampton of Brockenhust, UK. He was predeceased by his brothers Alfred Vibber in 1986 and Foster Vibber in1990. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 6th in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St. Southbridge. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Boylston.
