Donald Gendron

September 19, 1936 — March 29, 2021

SOUTHBRIDGE:  Donald R. Gendron, 84, of Morris St., died March 29 at Regional Medical Center of Bayonet Point in Hudson, FL. He leaves his wife of 64 years, Loretta (Labonte) Gendron, 3 daughters: Mary Lou and her husband Gregory Lescarbeau of Sandwich, MA, Maria Gendron of Bennington, NH, Donna and her husband Robert Benard of Southampton, MA, one son, Paul Gendron of Londonderry, NH, 2 brothers: his twin Ronald Gendron of Clearwater, FL, Robert Gendron of Clearwater, FL, 6 grandchildren: Christopher and Katherine Lescarbeau, Nathan, Lauren, Erin and Ethan Benard. He was predeceased by his brothers Lawrence Gendron, Albert Gendron, Norman Gendron, Howard Gendron, and his sister Pauline (Gloria) Girard. Donald was born in Southbridge, the son of Albert and Gertrude (Tetreault) Gendron, and lived in the area most of his life. While in the military, he lived in Florida and in France.  Employment opportunities included living in Northampton, MA, Keene, NH and Derry NH.  After retiring, he and Loretta have enjoyed being snowbirds in Holiday, Florida. He graduated from Cole Trade High School and UMASS Amherst and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He was one of the participants in the University Without Walls at UMASS at Amherst Program.  Don highly valued education and completed many certificate programs throughout his life as well as an Associates Degree from the Community College of the Air Force. Donald proudly served in the US Air Force for 30 years. He retired as a Master Sergeant. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed aviation.  He owned and piloted his own Grumman American aircraft.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an ardent fan of all Boston and New England sports teams.  He always enjoyed dancing, and in more recent years, singing karaoke with Loretta where he enjoyed time with many friends.  Family always came first and he treasured family gatherings. Calling hours are  5 to 7PM, Tuesday, April 13, in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St. Southbridge. Due to COVID-19 restrictions at Massachusetts Veteran’s Cemetery, the funeral and burial will be private. The Committal Prayers and Veterans Honors will be broadcasted live on Wednesday, April 14, at 2PM.
