HOLLAND - David McGovern, 75, of Over the Top Rd., died Wednesday, April 21, at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He leaves the love of his life, Carol L. Sweny, and her two sons, Wil and Travis, of Holland; his brother, Martin McGovern, of Millbury, and seven nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his two sisters, Anne Davitt, formerly of Newberry Port, and Diane Elliot, formerly of Ashland.
Mr. McGovern served 4 years in the US Air Force during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he returned to Massachusetts. And attended and graduated from the East Coast Areo Tech School in Bedford. He then moved to Long Island, NY, and was employed with Pan American Airlines.
He lived most of his life in Long island, NY, working 17 years for PAN AM at the Kennedy Airport which was his home base. He traveled to many parts of the world for PAM AM as a technical maintenance supervisor and station manager.
After PAN AM closed operations, he moved to Daytona Beach, FL, and purchased the Esquire Beach Motel with a partner, followed by the purchase of the Lawn Equipment Center in Daytona.
After selling his business, he retired and returned to Massachusetts, and settled in Holland.
He enjoyed repairing everything and anything including home improvement projects. He was an avid football fan.
He belonged to the St. George Church of Saxonville, MA.
His funeral will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, April 26 in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home 51 Marcy St. Southbridge. Burial will follow at Holland Cemetery. A calling hour will be held 10:00AM to 11:00AM before the service.
