Cynthia Ruth Spencer, age 63, died after a 2 year battle with ALS on August 23, 2006 in Warren, MA where she had made her home since 2005.
She was born on March 8, 1943 in Providence, RI to the late John Biernacki and Constance (Martin) Biernacki of Barrington, RI.
After growing up in Barrington, she briefly attended Gordon College in Wenham, MA; she then married Kenneth Spencer, a career Navy man. Following her fatherâ??s death, she and her family moved back to her childhood home to care for and assist her mother when needed. She soon began working part-time for Barnes & Noble at the Providence College Bookstore in Providence, RI. Later, she became a full-time manager at the Roger Williams University School of Law Bookstore in Bristol, RI. At the time of her retirement due to illness, she and her mother resided in Riverside, RI.
She is survived by her mother, Constance Biernacki now of Swansea, MA; daughter, Natalie Spencer and her partner Bruce Buffinton of Saint Augustine, FL; daughter, Suzanne Tuttle and her husband Charles of Warren, MA; sister, Jane Piccerelli of Swansea, MA; friend and companion, Robert Swain of Providence, RI; former husband and father of her children, Kenneth Spencer of Warwick, RI; grand dog, occasional bed warmer and face kisser, Cleo; a myriad of loving family members, friends and former students whom she often â??adoptedâ? as her own.
A memorial reception will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2006, in the Bay View Room â?? 2nd floor of the Roger Williams University School of Law Building on Ten Metacom Avenue in Bristol, RI from 2:00 p.m. â?? 6:00 p.m.
