Southbridge- Conrad Trahan, 83, died on Tuesday, May 6 at UMASS Hospital, Worcester, MA.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Rene Trahan of Southbridge; Gloria Bachand of Framingham; Ronald Trahan of Wadsworth, Illinois; Paul Trahan of Aurora, Colorado; and Diane Trahan Handy of Dudley. He is predeceased by Ernest Trahan, Carmen Casey and Armand Trahan.
He will be missed by nieces and nephews.
He was born April 15, 1931 in Southbridge, the son of Leo and Jeannette (Reeves) Trahan.
After studying at Notre Dame from 1936 to 1945, he entered the Brothers of Sacred Heart in Pascoag, Rhode Island. After high school he continued his education and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in English as Springhill College in Springhill, Alabama. He served as a teacher for about nine years. Upon leaving the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, he joined the army and served his country from 1954 to 1956. He furthered his education at Dominican College in San Rafael, California, earning a Master of Science Degree in Education in 1964. Later he studied at San Jose State College in San Jose, California, Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois and Assumption College in Worcester, MA. Conrad taught in private schools in California and in Massachusetts.
After retirement he worked for a short time as a machinist at Southbridge Tool & Die and Brookfield Machine.
Conrad enjoyed hiking, rock climbing, reading, studying, and doing research. He spent years writing a genealogy of the Trahan name. His work is treasured by his family.
There are no calling hours.
His Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on May 19 at Notre Dame Church of the Saint John Paul II parishes, 446 Main Street, Southbridge. It will be celebrated by Father Nelson Rivera, Assistant Pastor of the Saint John Paul II Parishes. His burial will follow at St. George Cemetery, Paige Hill Road, Southbridge.
