Connie Fontaine
January 14, 1941 — November 25, 2007
CHARLTON: Constance M. Fontaine, 66, of Laurie Lane, died Sunday Nov. 25 at Masonic Overlook Home with family beside her. She leaves her husband of 15 years Richard Fontaine, two daughters, Barbara Stone of Worcester, Leisa Heintz of Nantucket, a step daughter Michelle Fontaine of Worcester, two brothers Justin Putnam of Atwater, Ohio, Merrill Putnam of Sarasota, FL. three grandchildren Philip Oâ??Connor, Michael and James Cabrera and several nieces and nephews.
Connie was born in Worcester, the daughter of Hebert and Alberta (Burnham) Putnam and lived in the area all her life.
She graduated from Charlton High School class of 1958. She worked for the US Postal Service for 37 years. During that span she was promoted to the position of Postmaster in Charlton City, Charlton and Southbridge where she held that position for 15 years until her retirement in 1998.
Connie was an active member of the National Association of Postmasters and while Postmaster in Southbridge she was a member of Tri-Community Exchange Club.
Following her retirement from the postal service, Connie spent several years as a real estate agent in the local area. Also during her retirement, traveling was always on her agenda, in particular to her favorite spot in Aruba. She enjoyed gardening, tried her hand at golfing, took pride in her home and enjoyed her special times with nieces Sharon and Ellen. When it came time for a good meal her favorite item was â??reservations for twoâ? .
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, Nov. 30th, in the Charlton Federated Church, North Main St. Rt. 31, Charlton. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Auburn. Calling hours are 4:00PM to 8:00PM Thursday, Nov. 29th the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home 51 Marcy St. Southbridge.
