Charlotte Smith

July 7, 1910 — March 30, 2011

STURBRIDGE – Charlotte (Stone) Smith, 100, of Main St., died Wednesday, March 30, at the Meadows Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Leicester.  Her husband, Ellis E. Smith Jr., died in 1990.  She leaves one daughter, Eleanor VanNorman, and three sons, William Smith and Ellis E. Smith, III, all of Sturbridge, and Dwight Logan, of TN; six grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by two sisters, Laura Simpson and Lillian Chace, and one brother, Clarence Stone.

 

She was born in Sturbridge, the daughter of the late Clarence and Grace (George) Stone, and lived in the area her entire life.  She graduated from Becker College in Worcester.  She was employed by the American Optical Co. for many years, and worked for Old Sturbridge Village for 25 years before retiring.

 

She was a member of the Sturbridge Federated Church and its Women’s Club.  She was also a foster parent for many children.  She enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers.

 

A funeral service will be held at 10:00AM, Wednesday, April 6, in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge.  Burial will be in North Cemetery, Maple St., Sturbridge.  There are no calling hours.  Memorial contributions may be made to MARE, Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange, 45 Franklin Street, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02110-1301 or online at http://www.mareinc.org/How-You-Can-Help.html.  An online guestbook is available at www.BelangerFuneralHome.com.
