Charles R. Summers, 84, of Port Orange, FL., formerly of Sturbridge MA. and Westborough MA. died Tuesday, Feb. 7th.
He leaves his wife of 62 years Loretta (Costello) Summers, 3 sons Charles R. Summers JR. of Carmel, IN, James J. Summers of Pittsfield MA, Michael T. Summers of Springboro, OH, 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Born in Milford, MA. the son of William and Maryellen (VanRiper) Summers, he grew up in Upton graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Milford and New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston.
Charles owned and operated Summers Funeral Home in Westborough for many years. He also worked for several funeral homes in Worcester County. After his retirement, he and his wife traveled the country including trips to Ireland. He reactivated his funeral director license and worked and retired from the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home in Southbridge.
He umpired 20 years for the Westborough Little League, was a charter member of the Westborough Rotary Club, past Grand Knight of the Westborough Council #85, a former member of St. Anne’s Parish in Sturbridge and an active member of Our Lady of Hope in Port Orange, FL.
He enjoyed sports, fishing, and golf but most of all he enjoyed his family.
His funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Feb 21, at 8:30AM, in Our Lady of Hope Church, 4675 S Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange, FL 32129.
