STURBRIDGE: Charles Winfield Hannington, 81, of Sturbridge passed away peacefully at home on June 14, 2021.
Charles was born on July 10,1939 in Sherman Mills, ME son to the late Everett Hannington and Cora Agnes (Garnett) Hannington. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Darrell and Robert Hannington.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years Marilyn Marie (Grant) Hannington of Sturbridge; his son Charles Winfield Hannington, Jr. and his wife Heidi of Hampden; 2 daughters Deborah Beth(Hannington) Leits and her husband Antonio Domingos Leits of Sturbridge; Beverly Jean Hannington of Manahawkin, NJ; a sister Mildred Doolan of Teltona, FL; 8 grandchildren Jami, Jessi, Mandi, Jerry, Cindi, Karli, Ashley and Brennan; 15 great-grandchildren, Peyton, Espyn, Brynna, Kamdyn, Eastyn, Devin, Anneliese, Mykala, Olivia, Jack, Vera, Everett, Myles, Nate, Danny; and many nephews and nieces.
He was a Vietnam-Era Veteran. He entered the service in 1956 and completed his active duty in 1962. He continued to serve with the Air Force Reserves from 1962 to 1964. In 1964 he joined the Naval Reserves where he served for 4 years.
Before starting his carpentry business in 1980, Charles worked as a Boiler Technician in Searsport, ME and as an aircraft engine mechanic for Pratt & Whitney, and a mail carrier in Wilbraham, MA. He owned his own carpentry business from 1980-2006. He built homes, apartments, churches and elderly housing across the state of Connecticut. He ran his business with integrity and treated his men with respect.
Charles loved fishing and hunting and also loved to dance with Marilyn. He was an honest and hard-working man who loved his family above all else. He was deeply loved and will be missed by his wife, children, family and friends.
Calling hours are from 6-8PM Friday, June 25th, at the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home,51 Marcy St. Southbridge. His funeral services will be held at 7:30PM in the funeral home.
Burial will take place in Maine.
