STURBRIDGE: Cecile (Cil) Ann (Thibeault) Parker (92) died peacefully after a brief illness, on July 2, 2024.
Her beloved husband of 48 years, William S. Parker, died in 2006. Cil leaves her two children, William Parker Jr. and his wife Karen and Bonnie McEwen and her husband Alan; five grandchildren, Jacob Parker, Rosie Parker, Hamish McEwen, Gavin McEwen and Jordan Parker; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her younger brother, Roger Thibeault.
Cil was born in Oxford, MA, the daughter of Rene and Laura Thibeault. She grew up in a family of six children, graduating from Oxford High School. She was a devout Catholic attending St. Anne’s Parish and donating much of her time to church activities.
Cil worked many jobs through her life, including the American Optical Company, Galileo Fiber Optics and other local fiber optics companies. The jobs she loved the most included working in the cafeteria at Tantasqua High School and as a teaching aide in Kindergarten at Burgess Elementary. Everywhere she worked, Cil was well known for her energy, smile, and positive attitude.
An absolute “people person”, Cil knew how to connect and this was felt by everyone with whom she came in contact. She involved herself in the community from the Boy and Girl Scouts to St. Anne’s Church to the Sturbridge Senior Center. Through her husband Bill’s long-term battle with Multiple Sclerosis, she supported the Multiple Sclerosis Society, participating in many fundraising events. She later joined forces with friends to raise funds for Cancer Research. Well-known for her baked goods, Cil could be counted on for every bake sale at St. Anne’s. She would gather with friends to send out mailings for the church and the Senior Center. Cil just loved being with people and getting things done that needed doing.
Her Funeral Mass will be held at NOON on Tuesday, July 9th, in St. Anne’s Parish Church, Church Street, in the Fiskdale section of Sturbridge.
Calling hours will be held before the Mass are from 9:30-11:15 am at the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy ST. Southbridge.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anne-St Patrick Parish, 16 Church St., 16 Church St. Fiskdale, MA. 01518 or the Sturbridge Council on Aging Senior Center, 480 Main St. Fiskdale, MA. 01518.
