Nantucket: Catherine Ann Flanagan Stover, 66 of Liberty Street – Peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 31st 2018 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
She leaves her husband of 47 years John H. Stover. Catherine is also survived by 6 children, Elijah D Stover of NY, Isaiah J. Stover of Nantucket and spouse Kathleen Fitzpatrick Stover, Perry Wotring of Harvard MA and spouse Don Wotring, Dorothy Stover of Nantucket, Cora Stover of CT and Spouse Socrates Garcia, AdaRuth Waig of Nantucket and spouse Nathanael Waig, a brother Daniel Flanagan of Nantucket and spouse Janet Flanagan, her sister Elizabeth Flanagan of Nantucket, and 10 grandchildren; Addison Wotring, Kiera Worring, Isabelle Wotring, Ava Waig, Howard Waig, Issac Garcia Stover, Avrum Garcia Stover, Gabriel Fitzpatrick, Josiah John Stover, and Xander Stover.
She was predeceased by her son Josiah Stover in 1978 and a brother Charles E. Flanagan Jr. Catherine was born in Nantucket the daughter of the late Charles E and Ruth Ann (Murphy) Flanagan and lived on the island many years.
Catherine graduated with High Honors from New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences 1987 where she earned a degree in funeral service.
She was the Town Clerk of Nantucket, serving the Island for over 20 years. She was a devout strong Catholic.
Her hobbies included movies, crafts, painting, she was very well read, enjoyed social media. Most of all Catherine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and devoted public servant.
On Monday, August 13th, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM, the family invites the public to St Mary’s hall in the church basement to share their stories of Catherine. A wake will be held at St Mary’s from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, August 13th. Her funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM at St Mary’s, Nantucket Island on August 14, 2018.
