STURBRIDGE: Amy (Underwood) Phaneuf, 102, formerly of Farquar Rd, died Friday, May 1st at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehab in Worcester. Her husband George Phaneuf died in 1988. She leaves her brother Roger Underwood of Sturbridge; nephews Gary Underwood of Cleveland, OH; Kevin Underwood of Worcester; nieces, Barbara Benoit of Sturbridge; Gail Underwood of Providence RI; Judy Brunelle of Meridian, MS; Very good friends Butch and Vivian Jackson of Sturbridge; and several grandnephews and grandnieces. She was predeceased by her brother Roland Underwood and her sister Louise Underwood.
She was born in Sturbridge, the daughter of the late Alonzo and Myrtie (Dodge) Underwood and lived in the area all her life.
She retired from the Sturbridge Post Office after 25 years of service and previously worked for the American Optical Co.
She enjoyed traveling and boasted about her travels within the 48 states.
She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Grange.
She enjoyed her flower gardens and also enjoyed sewing and reading.
Her funeral will be held at 11:00AM, Tuesday, May 5th in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home 51 Marcy St. Southbridge. Burial will follow in North Cemetery. A calling hour will be from 10:00AM to 11:00AM before the funeral.
